There have been numerous rumored reports stating that the Dragonball Evolution film will re-release into theaters. However, nothing is neither official or confirmed on this. But seeing how poorly DB Evolution did last year, this could be expected. If FOX does decide to re-release the film, I just hope they actually advertise it and maybe even add in a few cut scenes to make the movie slightly better. But if this does occur then it will prove that they just want to milk this movie even more. We will keep you all updated, and as always debunk this rumor if it turns out to be false.
As discussed in the comments, rumors are going around that there is a leaked copy of a supposed directors cut of Dragonball Evolution. The user that posted about it on YouTube claims one of the versions of the film has an alternate ending and beginning. The other supposed version just has the deleted scenes added in and uses the ending song from Dragon Ball Kai in its credits, so that one might be a fake (although there are a few extra scenes not seen in the original). But the possibility of a true Directors cut version of the movie is likely to release. We will keep you posted.
Rumors are going around that the Dragonball Evolution film will be reset and will have another planned trilogy. I first got this inside tip from FOX myself and now HoyCinema reports this to be confirmed.
After the U.S. producers experienced a major failure with the signing of Dragon Ball: Evolution, we get information from our correspondents in Miami that Dragon Ball will be restarted and not only that, but also confirmed a forthcoming trilogy.
Such confirmation said the spokesman for 20th Century Fox, Abraham Sullivan :
“If we have another movie (Dragon Ball), we are currently discussing the resumption of the trilogy” Sullivan said our correspondent.
“The only problems we have are the scripts are not finished yet and will be reviewed by our executives, as well as walk in the search for a new director to make such delivery” said the spokesman for the Fox.”
I will still only take this as rumor as of now. But if true, then hopefully the deal about a new director is also true. 20th Century FOX will still distribute the film and the casting is unknown at this point.
UPDATE : Hoy Cinema has admitted that the claim they made about a reboot was false. No matter how pathetic this was as an attempt for visits or whatever, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that a reboot is still possible. We can only wait and see what plans FOX has for the live action Dragon Ball series. Anyways, this just further proves we can never trust anything from that site and should take any rumor out there as false until proven otherwise. And the only reason I posted this rumor was due to inside information that may later be revealed.
Sci Fi Now spoke with Justin Chatwin recently in which he revealed the script to the sequel of Dragonball Evolution has already been written. Other reports also suggest the sequal’s title will be “Dragonball Reborn”.
Dragonball: Evolution, the first live-action adaptation of the popular manga, hasn’t even hit our screens yet, but the script for a proposed sequel has already been written, according to Justin Chatwin, who plays Goku in the upcoming film.
Speaking to SciFiNow last month, the 26-year-old actor said that he was signed on for potential sequels, and that he was excited about the prospect: “If there were to be a sequel I think it… well, I know that it would go to a really interesting place, because they already have the second script written.” When pressed for details, Chatwin revealed a little more about the direction of the celluloid version of the franchise. “It’s really, really cool. The second one goes more into the whole legacy and the genealogy of Dragonball. It goes more in-depth into a real Dragonball series, the kind of intergalactic world of Dragonball.”
Dragonball Toys and MTV posted brand new images of the upcoming action figures for Dragonball Evolution from Toy Fair 2009. These show the Oozaru figure (with Saiyan armor?), Fullum Assassins and the rest of the gang. Enjoy!
Thanks to DBthemovie, we have part 4 and the conclusion of the Dragonball Evolution official press book. This part of the previews speaks of the locations for the film.
“DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION” began production in Mexico City, where a private, ultra-modern school stood in for Goku’s high school. More than one hundred students were used as extras filling in the classrooms, parking lots and hallways. A sprawling private mansion in an exclusive residential area with English Tudor and Asian architectural elements was utilized for a high school party scene. An area within the city limits became Paozu City, where Roshi lives in a shack situated amidst towering skyscrapers.
After six days of filming in Mexico City, the production moved to Durango, Mexico, where the rest of the filming took place. “Durango has the spectacular outdoor locations including the high mountains, rock formations and deserts we required,” says executive producer Tim Van Rellim, who had worked on a film production in Durango a decade earlier. The production transformed an abandoned jeans factory with a million square feet into a working studio production facility with office, storage and mill spaces, along with a wardrobe warehouse, practical soundstages, and a ten-acre outdoor area that was turned into a backlot for outdoor sets.
High mountain desolate rock formations at Mexiquillo became the secret Toi San training facility. Over 200 local Durango martial artists and their instructors were recruited and transported to the remote location for a big martial arts training scene. The cast and crew faced daily extremes in temperatures from chilly early morning lows of 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) to hot afternoon highs of 80 degrees (F.), as well as occasional dust storms fanned by windy conditions. Later in the shoot, the filmmakers utilized a major recreation facility in Durango as the location for the Toi San Tournament competition arena. One thousand extras filled the structure, cheering the action.
Los Organos State Park, with its spectacular rock formations that resemble church organ pipes, became the setting and inspiration for the story’s Dragon Temple, where pivotal action set pieces where captured. Towering desert sand dunes, called “Las Dunas De Bilbao,” north of Durango, were used for traveling scenes and as the exterior of a desert cavern in Yamcha’s habitat.
The Toi San marketplace was realized out of a grain storage facility from the 1800s that was found just outside of Durango. New architectural elements were added and then enhanced by set decorations mixing Middle Eastern elements with a flea market atmosphere.
Interior sets constructed and housed at the Jeans factory production facility, included the two-story interior of Roshi’s shack, a 20 foot high cavern interior, the Toi San Temple courtyard and corresponding interiors, Lord Piccolo’s Genesis Chamber and dirigible, as well as the green screen sets.
And just to remind everyone, today is the day of the Super Bowl. If any Dragonball Evolution movie ads are shown we will post them.
It seems the DB Movie might be getting somewhat of a title change. Coming Soon reports that FOX has decided to change the name of the movie to, Dragonball Evolution.
20th Century Fox may have extended the title of its upcoming “Dragon Ball” adaptation to Dragonball Evolution. If it’s indeed the new title the studio is going with, we should find out for sure soon.
Civilized James also shows this as the new title. But note that this is only rumor.
UPDATE - Well, it seems this rumor might be true. Although not confirmed, FOX has stated to me talk about that name has been going around internally.
Ok, so there has been quite a bit of small news tidbits (especially rumors) concerning the movie. So I decided to wait until enough pop up for one decent update.
First off, trailer rumors. I’d first like to give notice to DBthemovie.com user, Kaypain, for giving some details out of the official trailer. This user has supposely seen the actual trailer through his work’s movie previewing privilage. Here is what he stated will be in the trailer. (note this is just a summary of his own words)
- Piccolo, Goku, Bulma and Roshi will speak.
- Funny scene with Roshi and Bulma.
- Quick shots of Goku fighting Piccolo.
- Grandpa Gohan makes a cameo.
- A few school shots.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this is true since Iam guessing some kind of footage could get leaked.
But on the same note, more trailer rumors.
Dragonballmovieblog.net has claimed they have a FOX source themselves and got a little bit of info concerning the trailer. It seems we may have to wait a little longer (if this info is true) to witness the official Dragonball movie trailer.
We had hoped to finish it in time for that delivery but it looks like it may be debuting later now. Still waiting to hear for sure.
I will try and clarify this myself with FOX and let you guys know whats up.
UPDATE – FOX has confirmed to me that this is in fact TRUE. We will not be seeing the trailer on 12/12. Januray 2009 is the next targeted date.
And now, some other small bits of news.
Emmy Rossum has updated her blog recently from Tokyo where she states she was on the plane with Justin Chatwin. Now there are rumors Justin Chatwin will make an appearance at the DB movie panel at Jump Festa. So, this latest post from Emmy could mean she might make an appearance there as well. We will keep you posted on this.
Also, take a look at these Dragonball movie bearbrick toys. Piccolo and Goku…
These will be shown at Jump Festa and given out for those that pre-ordered tickets to this event. Note that this event will show clips from the actual Dragonball movie on December 20th 2008. So, look forward to leaked clips fairly soon.
If anything else pops up, we will keep you up to date.
Our friends over at dbthemovie.com has posted what is believed to be the monster ‘Oozaru’ form of Goku in the Dragonball live action movie. Iam sure it is unfinished and only a mask that he is wearing until some CGI work gets done. Well if you guys wished to be spoiled on what Oozaru Goku might be looking like in the film, then view the image below.
SPOILERS
UPDATE – Good news guys. FOX has informed me that the Oozaru image isn’t official and was just temporary ideas that they were messing with. They then confirmed me that it isn’t the final look.
A reader from Aint It Cool News has sent in a review for an early cut of the Dragonball film. Please note that this is only rumor but does contain possible spoilers.
Hello to all of you,
I am a huge fan of your site and constantly visit here but this will be my first time emailing you about something. I love geek movies because there is nothing better than a well made geek movie. Well after watching the 95-100 minutes (excluding credits) of the movie i say this movie was solid. Ya you heard that right. I simply love the anime but I was very very nervous about it being made by fox. After all the studio has been making nothing but shit lately. Another reason why I was worried about this movie is that the director is James Wong who made final destination 1 & 3 and The one starring Jet Li. What I watched had unfinished sfx and with no scoring done yet. Also… they will be adding one or two scenes which will be shot sometime end of october.
Now let me list the positives of this movie
1) Action – I wasn’t expecting the action scenes to be as awesome as they were. Simply put the best thing about this movie. The last action scene of Goku vs. Picollo are simply amazing and when picollo takes out his huge fucking ass sword with weird rectangle shape tablet attached it at the tip of sword and slamming it on goku was fucking awesome. Lot of blowing shit up, super cool flying scenes, awesome ki blasts. This fight scene was around 13-15 minutes long. There are other small action scenes that are fun and entertaining with slo mo but nowhere as good as the picollo vs. goku scene.
2) James Marsters as Picollo was awesome. He was perfect as picollo. Very mean and a villain that makes you say fuck ya kick all their asses. Oh and Picollo transforms into a light greenish color picollo towards the end of the movie.
3) Justin Chatwin as Goku. This guy surprised me a lot. I really didn’t like him when they casted him as goku but he did a damn good job in the acting department and he nailed the KAMEHAMEHA line.
4) Oozaru – the giant monkey is in the movie. Goku turns into a 8-9 feet tall giant baboon when he looks at the moon. It was awesome looking though a bit CGI. Maybe they will fix it later.
5) Emmy Rossum as Bulma- She was really really good in this role. I liked how she never acted like a wimpy girl and eventhough she knows she can’t win against the evil forces yet she kicks ass. A strong female role I will say.
6) Fullum Assasins – I thought adding these monsters were bad idea but they were pretty damn cool and there was an enitre scene where Goku and his friends fight these monsters and that fight scene was pretty damn good.
7) Joon Park as Yamcha was pretty cool. His acting was spot on like the character and they showed some cool fighting techniques of his. The fight scene between him and goku was good.
Negatives
1) Story – Dragonball fans will be dissapointed with some of the changes they have made with stories and characters etc. Krillin isn’t in the movie, Tien isn’t in the movie too. High school setting for the first 22-23 minutes was so not needed but ah well typical hollywood garbage of adding bullshit like that.
2) Jamie Chung as Chi Chi – Ya this was another casting i didn’t like and my worst fears came true. Her acting is as bad as Jessica Alba’s in F4 movies but thankfully her screentime isn’t that big. I really wished they could have tried harded to find someone else. I hope for sequel she can improve if there is one of course.
3) Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi – I was dissapointed with this. I wanted the fucking perverted roshi who fucking grabs breasts and asses like in the anime but alas all of that is fucking gone. Also he acted like Mr. Kesuke Miyagi. You know what I mean. The lines he spoke were fine but I felt he was uncomfortable in the movie. Very dissapointed.
4) Shenron the dragon – Ah another huge dissapointment. This is like sentinel in X3 all over again. FUCK FUCK FUCK you fox. So ya they get all the dragonballs and the dragon appears but the dragon is hiding behind fucking clouds and you only see his shadow. The voice of the dragon was provided by none other than Christopher Sabat who provided the voice for the dragon in the american version of the anime. When the dragon spoke it was chilling but damnit it was hiding behind clouds. One can hope they will fix this but chances of that are very slim.
5) Eriko Tamura as Mai was underused character and frankly speaking if that is what their intention was to underuse her then they might as well have not added this character and just added more picollo. Her moments were cool and she basically was there to show her nice boobies but ya she was kinda wasted.
Overall, I would give the movie a 6.5/10 simply because i was expecting disaster but it turned out better. The positives I mentioned coupled with some cool funny goku moments like eating a massive turkey etc. were hilarious. If only Master Roshi was perverted and Shenron was visible I would have given this 9 but ah well they messed up there. Hopefully they will fix shenron as they still have 5 months to movie’s release but if not then well fuck you to fox and james wong. But in all seriousness I am glad it aint the disaster I thought it would be. Hopefully you guys will post this. Thank You.
Remember the short descriptions of the upcoming new promo pics that we should be seeing shortly? Well dbthemovie.com has shown an edited version of Piccolo’s sword. They mentioned that they will be showing more teaser pieces of the promos until they are official released to the public. View the edited version of the supposed sword that Piccolo will be wielding in the upcoming Dragonball movie below.
DBthemovie.com has received e-mail from FOX stating that the upcoming Dragonball film will be shown at this years Brand Licensing Europe during October 1st-2nd. We are not sure if this is the first preview screening or not and if it will be the entire movie or just early drafts. One thing is for sure though, that the film will be shown October1st or 2nd during Brand Licensing Europe.
Dbthemovie.coom forum member has also claimed the following statement.
The film is in final stages, 90 minutes long, likely PG-13, first in an on-going series. Major video game adaptation out next year, leading comic book company publishing new manga series based on movie. New animated television series in development.
Although most of this is very likely, a new animated series based on Dragonball is not. Keep in mind that this is only rumor. But why would a new cartoon series be made based on the movie when Akira Toriyama is most likely working on new projects for Dragonball aside from the brand new special that recently premiered. However we have already seen pieces of the manga a few months back, so the cartoon could happen. We will keep you informed.
An anonymous source as stated that Criss Angel (from Mindfreak) will be playing the role of Goku’s brother, Raditz, in the upcoming Dragonball film. Note that this is only rumor and is probably fake due to an unknown source.
“Acclaimed Illusionist Criss Angel, according to an interview at Access Hollywood this past Friday, is under a cryptic negotiation with director James Wong, to shoot a post production cameo scene where he will play Goku’s estranged alien brother Raditz. This suprise scene is said to take place in after the films credits”
DBTheMovie has been sourced with a brand new Dragonball Movie poster. This one is of Bulma holding her gun with the Dragonball logo. Sources say that there are several other new Dragonball posters to come.
Coming Soon.net has reported from FOX that the trailer for the live action Dragonball movie will be shown with the upcoming movie, Max Payne, which is set to be released October 17th.
ComingSoon.net has learned that 20th Century Fox will debut the first trailer for Dragonball in theaters on October 17 with the studio’s video game adaptation Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg. We’ll have to wait and see whether Fox will release the trailer online earlier that week.
IGN Confirms
The first teaser trailer for the live-action feature film version of Dragonball will reportedly hit theaters in October. A studio source informed IGN that, while Oct. 17 is Fox’s “target date,” nothing is guaranteed until the special effects and requisite approvals are in place.
