James Marsters at SFX Weekender

February 10, 2010 in Dragonball Evolution, Movie Cast by avenged

James Marsters at SFX 2010Sci Fi UK was looking for specific questions to ask James Marsters (Lord Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution) at last weekends SFX Weekender. I sent in a question regarding the planned sequel to Dragonball, but it seems they might have stayed away from any Dragonball talk at this event. Here is a portion of a Q&A session during SFX Weekender. Now I am not sure if this was the same Q&A Sci Fi UK planned or not. According to their Twitter page, their interview with James Marsters may be exclusive. I will report any other details when available.

Also, James will be appearing at the following events in the next couple months : Supanova Expo 2010, FedCon XIX 2010, Phoenix Comicon and Philadelphia Comic Con. I may attend the Phoenix Comic Con, but that event is a little over three months away. Special guests for that event include : James Marsters, Ray Park and Mike Mcfarland (Master Roshi from FUNimation DBZ).

UPDATE : The interview from Sci Fi UK has been released and as expected James was not asked anything Dragonball related. If you wish to read the full interview then click here.

October 24, 2009 in Dragonball Evolution, Interviews, Movie Cast by avenged

scifinow Sci Fi Now Marsters InterviewCivilized James posted a bit about a new interview with James Marsters. Apparantly this new interview is mainly about Dragonball Evolution. No word if he mentions anything new since the only scan that was provided is quite small and not clear enough to make out any of the interview (shown to the right). If anyone has a copy of this issue or knows where I can obtain a full scan, go ahead and mention it in the comments. I will be greatly appreciated if done and will give credit to anyone that helps out here!

Cast’s Opinion on DB Evolution

April 8, 2009 in Dragonball Evolution, Interviews, Movie Cast by avenged

In a recent interview, the cast of Dragonball Evolution shared their thoughts on the film.

Have you all watched the movie? What did you think when you watched yourselves performing the superpowers with the CGI?

Jamie Chung: It blew my mind! James would not even give us even a sneak peek as to what he was working on. He would go into his Bat Cave and do his editing. I didn’t hear back from anyone for the longest time and finally we sat down and watched it. It blew my mind! It was two hours long and it went by in five minutes! I was like: ‘That’s it?! No!! None of my scenes were cut, thanks James. I was so impressed with all the special effects. It was so magical.

Justin Chatwin: I was nervous because there has never been an American adaptation of a manga, so James is really pioneering this ground for film makers. I was nervous, because I was like: ‘ Alright, I’m in an orange ninja suit with half a foot long hair, running around doing ninja stuff. This was either going to be really good or the end of my career. It might as well do it now rather than later! (Jokes) When I sat down to watch it, I was really nervous, but once the movie started, the music comes in and the characters come to life and just the colours and the tone, and the balance of violence and comedy ” once it started, I mean, it started and then it ended and I was really happy. I think it’s a super fun movie. It’s up there in the vein of movies I loved growing up, like Ninja Turtles, Batman and Back to the Future, movies like that.

James Marsters: It reminded me of a freight train. It left the station and it didn’t slow down. There are moments when I used to watch the anime where your jaw would just drop, there would be certain moments in the cartoon that the fight would happen and you would be like: I cannot believe I just saw that. And that was very much like the film. Right out the gates in the beginning of this picture, you’re just blown to the back of your seat with the back-story, then you’ve got the fight on the wires and it all builds to the end in the desert. There were quite a few moments when I was like: Oh my! That’s so huge. I was very happy too.

Dragonball Sequels Exclusive

March 30, 2009 in Dragonball Evolution, Dragonball Reborn News, Interviews, Movie Cast by avenged

IGN recently spoke with James Marsters and Justin Chatwin (Lord Piccolo and Son Goku) which whom spilled the beans on the upcoming sequels to Evolution.

Firstly, Marsters told us why he hopes the film is successful enough to get a sequel and how many DB movies he’d like to see: “I hope [the movie does well] because my character only really gets interesting in the second film, I mean he’s interesting now! But his journey is really developed in the script for the second movie.”

He went on: “All I know is I’ve been signed to three movies, but I would like to make five — seven of them. You could just pretty much paint by numbers using the wealth of source material to easily get the seven films. There’s that much there.”

Meanwhile, Chatwin is also obviously thinking about Dragonball as a series of movies, with the actor seeing Evolution as an introduction piece to the wider universe.

Marsters as Lord Piccolo and Chatwin as Goku.

He said: “There’s a whole generation of kids waiting to be introduced to Dragonball, so this first movie is really important for that. I mean the main plot is the battle between Piccolo and Goku, but this first film still serves to introduce the characters and where they’re from and what they’re deals are. And so to cover that ground really takes up most of the first movie.”

He goes on: “I know what they have in store for the second one and it’s really cool! It’s more in the vein of the Dragonball saga… it goes into other places, there’s other characters, other fighters and there’s a lot of action that is just really awesome.

“It actually goes more into Dragon Ball Z land and it’s just really exciting. It goes into the whole legend of Dragonball. I cant really say more than that, but it made me think this is a cool franchise to be a part off because there’s so much we haven’t shown yet.”
