In a recent convention James Marsters was asked if a new live action Dragon Ballmovie would be made anytime soon. He simply replied that he enjoyed DragonballEvolution and would love for a sequel, and also noted with the new animated movie releasing soon (Battle of Gods) 20th Century FOX did inquire the cast about returning for Dragonball 2. However we can’t find the original source so take this as a fake. It should also be noted that the entire cast are signed onto two more Dragonball movies after DBE.
Only time will tell at this point, would you prefer a reboot or be happy with an official sequel to DragonballEvolution?
After finally receiving replies via my contacts from 20th Century FOX, I got word that they do in fact still own the rights to the Dragon Ball series but currently have no plans on creating a sequel to DragonballEvolution, let alone a reboot to the movie. However, I did not receive any more information on whether or not they plan on selling the rights or if they are just waiting for their license to expire. Not to mention the entire cast from DBE are very busy at the moment if they eventually decide to create a sequel. The cast will continue to be busy in the immediate future, but that is not to say an entirely new cast and crew will be hired.
Aside from the fact that there are zero plans for a future movie at the moment, they still own the rights to create live action DragonBall movies. This is no surprise as FOX acquired the rights to the series back in 2002 and decided to wait until 2007 to begin production on DragonballEvolution. Do you see them trying again sometime in the near future? Or would you prefer if they handed the rights to another company? Discuss!
As this comes at no surprise, at least we have the upcoming official DragonBall Z animated movie to look forward to in 2013!
Well now how did we miss this? Anyways, Emmy Rossum (Bulma) and Justin Chatwin (Goku) sat down with TV Line in which they discussed their roles in the TV show Shameless. Towards the end of the interview they were asked if they knew there was going to be a sequel to DragonballEvolution. Here’s what they had to say!
TVLINE : Last question: A fan wants to know if there will be a DragonballEvolution 2?
ROSSUM : Dragonball 2…. Gosh, I hope not! [Laughs] Only because I can’t see Justin getting back in that outfit. That was definitely a moment in time.
CHATWIN : Oh no! [Laughs] It’s like this ongoing joke that will never die, the fact that we did that movie.
During his busy schedule with co star Emmy Rossum and the show Shameless, Justin Chatwin had an interview with IGN concerning that show and if there are any other projects he is working on. He goes to mention that a sequel to DragonballEvolution is indeed going to become a reality and production starts this year. Want to find out more details? Then continue reading this entry…
IGN has reported today that we will see a sequel to DragonballEvolution, but not in the matter that you may think. Reports suggest it will be adapted into a brand new DragonBall cartoon series. With the failure of the first live action movie, IGN suggests that this will be the best route to continue the story of DB E. Here’s a direct quote:
“It’s official, a sequel to DragonballEvolution has been green lit, but not as a new movie, instead as a newly adapted cartoon series based on the events of the movie. The first episode will air April 1st 2012 on FOX and will follow up on the ending of DB: E with Lord Piccolo returning and Goku fighting at the Worlds Martial Arts Tournament. We think this may be best for the franchise, we do not need to see another live action DragonBallmovie for a long time.”
In case you’re still reading this, yes today is April Fools Day
At Megacon 2011, James Marsters answered a question regarding a possible sequel to DragonballEvolution. He simply says it will probably not get made but also talks a bit of what they had planned for a live action version of DragonBall Z. To check out what exactly he had to say, view this video interview!
The recent supposed screenwriter for the Dragon Ballmovie reboot has been officially taken off the crew list for this film. What’s not surprising is the fact that every other detail remains in tact. IMDB has their heart set that this film will happen and has been announced. Kazuaki Kiriya did in fact inform IMDB that his involvement in the supposed reboot was not true, however they stick to their story that this movie will occur (which are only rumors, since a reboot has not been officially announced, nor has the sequel).
If there was a planned reboot, IMDB would be the last official source to take credit for it. Whoever is approving the recent contributions (to both Dragonball Reborn and Dragonball Reboot) needs to seriously reconsider their facts and keep it all as rumor, since that is all it has ever been since DragonballEvolution released.
At a recent convention that James Marsters (Lord Piccolo) attended, he was asked if he would return for a DragonballEvolutionmoviesequel. He simply responded yes and that there is still a high chance a sequel could happen.
If 20th Century FOX goes ahead and films a second Dragonballmovie, would you return to keep your role as Piccolo? James Marsters: Yes. They initially planned a trilogy for two more Dragonball movies to be made. I am still under contract for two more films and nothing has been cancelled. Although DragonballEvolution did not exactly exceed fans nor the box office expectations, it still made a profit. It is highly possible that a sequel to Dragonball will begin very shortly, as everyone knows, we still want to provide DBZ as there is so much story to be told. I have been told in the past that a sequel was in fact green lit, and that fact has yet to change. I just hope Dragonball 2 will please fans as I will be very anxious to become part of it.
We’ll examine this interview more and confirm if it is legit or not. Nonetheless, would you prefer a sequel?
Update : I have checked through all the latest interviews/press releases/conventions he attended, and such a question was never asked. It is safe to say this interview is fake.
IMDB has officially removed the rumored sequel to DragonballEvolution, Dragonball 2 Reborn, from their listings. This confirms any recent rumors as fake. It also basically confirms that a sequel is not in the works nor is it planned for the time being.
A sequel to DB Evolution has always just been speculated since its initial release anyway. Even director James Wong said a sequel would not happen if DragonballEvolution bombed, which it did. What does this mean if it is in fact not happening? Well, for one, maybe we’ll get a reboot that will finally satisfy the fans… or maybe the live-action franchise is done for good. Or maybe we’ll end up seeing a sequel further down the line with a new cast or crew. Only time will tell, and IMDB is certainly not the best source.
Discuss your thoughts on the matter after the break.
Aside from that, everyone should look forward to a new layout for DB Legends rather soon. It has been in the works for a few days now, so it should be up and running fairly shortly.
This post is just to inform everyone that we have officially come to the conclusion that all recent additions to the cast of Dragonball Reborn are in fact fake. No, we have not yet received official confirmation denying the recent rumors, but it’s safe to assume that they are both a hoax and incompetent approvals on IMDB’s part. Nonetheless, if you’re interested in what has recently been added to the IMDB cast list for Dragonball Reborn that we haven’t reported, continue reading this entry.
Many of you will know this actor from the movie Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, but irregardless, IMDB has added him to play the role of Tenshinhan in Dragonball Reborn. This cast listing is almost too good to be true for a live action Dragon Ball Z movie, so don’t believe one word of it just yet. They never did add my update of DiCaprio for Trunks, however they did approve my other submission when I made Hiro Super play the role of Raditz (he was there as an unlisted actor before). And on top of that James Kyson-Lee is also shown to play the role of Yamcha. Some say that is because he is up for the role of Yamcha with Joon Park like before with Evolution. Either way, this IMDB casting list is a total mess. But if any official confirmation does come out of this, you’ll know where to find it.
EDIT: A commenter named reuben claims he’s been adding these fake casting updates to IMDB. Of course he could be lying but I highly doubt it. So there you go. We’ll keep you updated if any other news comes to light.
IMDB Pro has updated the Dragonball Reborn page with two new directors, Stephen Chow (Journey to the West) and Takeshi Kitano. However I shouldn’t have to convince any of you of how unreliable IMDB can be. I am curious however how they came to confirm a new director, especially when 20th Century FOX has yet to make the announcement themselves. Anyone can edit IMDB of course, but each new addition is reviewed and must be approved. Does IMDB know something everyone else does not? Or is it simply yet another mistake on their part? Either way, as usual take this as a rumor and we will shed any light on it if possible.
IMDB has not re listed Joon Park for the role as Yamcha but instead has replaced that role with Tatsuya Fujiwara for Dragonball Reborn. He has been in several Japanese films, the most popular being Death Note where he played Light. But as usual, seeing how it’s IMDB again, take this only as a rumor for the time being. On a side note, IMDB has yet to approve my contribution as Leonardo DiCaprio as Trunks, however they did approve my version of the movie’s storyline.
IMDB is at it again, and this time they listed Isaac Jin Solstein to play the role of Goku’s son, Gohan. The only other movie this person has appeared in is the recent live action adaptation of “The Last Airbender.” Like always, don’t take this information as 100% official or anything since it does come from IMDB. Let’s see if they approve my addition of Leonardo DiCaprio as Future Trunks. If they do then we can debunk all these casting rumors. Stay tuned.
For anyone that is interested in checking out what IMDB Pro says for Dragonball 2 Reborn, I have summarized everything it reveals.
