James Marsters on Dragonball Evolution Sequel

At Megacon 2011, James Marsters answered a question regarding a possible sequel to Dragonball Evolution. He simply says it will probably not get made but also talks a bit of what they had planned for a live action version of DragonBall Z. I knew it… They were going to amp it up for the sequel like a lot of movies do. Definitely would have loved to see chatwin man up and get cut, shit, well whatever… until the next db movie..

Funny thing I just used Whois to check the expiration date on Dragonballthemovie.com, and it expires in 2011. I know they can extend it at any time still i’m curious what will happen after that. I hate you Tom Rothman, I hate you so much.

Personally I thought that Dragonball Evolution was a decent movie however I think many would agree that the movie would’ve been far more successful if Michael Bay had directed it. I mean just look at what he has done with the Transformers films,which in my opinion have become epic. I believe that if Michael Bay were to pick up the Dragonball franchise,he could make it far better than Evolution. Hell,he might even make it better than the Transformers movies.

Ok, Dragonball Evolution was an ok film, I do not really agree that they pumped up dragonball. I do believe though that a sequel should be made. As a dragonball fan I was a bit dissapointed with Evolution (it was a bit of a kiddy movie) but I know that the Saiyan Saga would be awesome if the story is meant for an older crowd. I am sorry to say this but i do not think that Justin Chatwin was right for the part as Goku. If you choose to have the same main characters then all of them have to work out so that you can bring the story to “reality”. And I have to admit a third would be great – a real super saiyan

They should remake the movie starting at the beginning and make it similar to the manga and anime. The actors should have been younger also. I was looking between the movie and the anime and the characters were way different and they added characters too. Another thing was that goku’s grandpa was already dead, goku never went to school, and he lived in the mountains. They should have got the scenery better too. Also the slow motion made the movie worse. They have better effects, this isn’t the 1980s.

I thought the movie was pretty good and I would see the sequel. If you are a DB fan, that is the best live action movie to date. Be practical, what can you expect? This isn’t something that would have the budget of spiderman. The writing was pretty good and well adapted to the American audience.

As I said to a friend the other day: Roshi was a perv, Yamcha was a tool and Bulma a bitch. There’s 3 things they got right!
Also people need to get one thing right, the movie was about DRAGONBALL, not DRAGONBALL Z!
Could the movie have been better? Absolutely! A CGI movie would have been best, but I’m still glad they made it and am able to enjoy it.
They HAD to make some obvious changes. Can you think what people would have said about a 5 year old fending for himself in the middle of no where? “It’s promoting child abandonment and child abuse!” Which we all know is BS of the highest order.
I could go on, but I won’t, I’d LOVE a sequel to be made, but I doubt it will happen

I can’t say I’ve seen The Last Airbender, but considering peoples poor opinion of it, surely that proves that sometimes changes are good? (I am going off others opinions there though)

Besides, even Akira Toriyama said, fans need to treat this as an alternative DB universe, not an exact copy. So I can see where purists are coming from, but they really need to keep an open mnd about this.
After all, with a bigger budget, look how successful the Star Trek movie was in creating it’s own alternative universe.

I dont agree that there shud be a sequel to evolution, reason being it was simply horrible. Ive watched dragonball since it first started in uk on tv and own all the series on dvd. It was simply a low budget american-ized version of a manga series. I do belive they shud start again with dragonball as it has a massive following and if done properly would do extremely well worldwide. It needs a big budget the wright producers and the wright director for this to work.

dragonball evolution sucked fucking balls ! where was krillin for one? they left out a lot of important things. & it was corny as shit, they should remake it again, making dragon ball a trilogy with a better charachter playing goku.& stick a little more to the story line, we got all the special effects to make an awesome movie. directors sit down & watch dragonball & make a better fucking movie(s).
