All They Need is Seven
Back in 2002, when 20th Century FOX announced that a live action Dragon Ball Z movie would soon be in production, a lot of fan material meant to promote the film surfaced on the internet. Many of this material usually used the quote “All They Need is Seven” in one way or another. The poster shown to the right is where that originated, and that certain piece even showed up in an article at IGN saying it could actually possibly be the work of FOX. They question whether or not they are already promoting the DBZ movie.
Here is an excerpt from IGN…
Somewhere in the halls of 20th Century Fox, work is underway on a live-action DragonBall movie. However, very little news has been forthcoming so far on Hollywood’s adaptation of the popular Japanese anime/manga series.
It may seem premature to see any marketing materials for the proposed 2003 film so far, but there’s already a supposed poster floating around on the Internet for the flick. Is it bona fide?
On the one hand, the graphic design work is far above the usual fan-made fare – clearly the work of a professional designer. The poster also includes a jazzy new “DBZ” monogram that is so typical of the inscrutable alphanumeric tags Hollywood and TV producers like sticking on movies and shows these days (think ID4, M:I-2, MIIB, XXX, AI, CSI, SVU, SG1, etc.).
On the other hand, the layout is not in the usual one-sheet proportions, meaning that if it’s real, it’s probably some kind of special banner. Also, maybe it’s just me, but the Fox logo in the bottom right-hand corner seems a bit too large.
The official DragonBallZ website has next to no information on the movie, despite being the official news outlet for the project.
They were several other posters just like this, but in the end it seems it really was just fan material.
In the next classic news article, we will get into rumors that there was four planned movies and who was originally considered to direct them.
