“I have always drawn my manga with the desire to create something unique to comics, something that can only be expressed in the form of comics. I felt that if I didn’t do so, the reason for the existence of my comics will become weak. But recent movies have surprised us by entering such territory that used to belong only to comics with wonderful technology and wisdom.”

In 2004 the question of a live action Dragon Ball film yet again stirred up rumors of possibly not happening. At one point a representative from 20th Century FOX even said that they would not be making a Dragonball movie. Here’s a quote.

“The Dragon Ball Z movie? We don’t have that,” said a Fox spokesperson. “I’ve got a lot of calls about that, so I called around. We won’t be making that [movie].”

This was later rejected in 2004 when FOX has announced an official script writer, Ben Ramsey.

Just when fans were beginning to think that all hope was lost for the live-action Dragonball Z, today’s Variety scoops that 20th Century Fox has hired screenwriter Ben Ramsey (The Big Hit) to adapt the property for the big screen.

In addition to The Big Hit, Ramsey has scripted the forthcoming adaptation of Marvel’s Luke Cage and Columbia Pictures’ Static. The trade tips that he’ll be paid $500,000 for the gig.

The Dragonball live action movie was soon delayed until 2007 with the original intent for filming the movie in Montreal Canada.

It looks like 20th Century Fox is rushing the long-awaited live-action movie adaptation of Dragon Ball Z into production before the looming industry strikes happen next year.

According to the Montreal Gazette, Dragon Ball Z will shoot in Montreal sometime in the coming year; while an exact start date isn’t known yet, the paper reports that production is expected to be completed by next July.

Until further notice, this ends our classic news articles. However you all should be on the look out for more Dragon Ball related articles in the near future.

Seems the quotes are still not formatted correctly, I’ll fix it asap.

Anyways, yeah the good ole days of speculation. Kind of hard to speculate with as much passion for a possible sequel now though. Oh well…
