FUNimation has finally confirmed at the Anime Expo that they will be releasing the first 31 episodes of Dragon Ball (remastered) September 15th. They have also updated their twitter mentioning Season One of Dragon Ball.

They also mentioned at the anime expo to stay tuned for more Dragon Ball related updates within the next month. One can only speculate what it could be, but it most likely has to do with Dragon Ball Kai. Or maybe re-airing the series on TV? We’ll just have to wait and see.

UPDATE – FUNimation revealed a press release :

Dragon Ball Season Set One includes the first 31 episodes of the iconic franchise and chronicles the first adventures of Goku as a child as he meets Bulma, Master Roshi and others. Together they set out to find the seven magic Dragon Balls and make the wish that will change their lives forever.

“This is a project we have been looking forward to for a long time,” said Gen Fukunaga, president at CEO at FUNimation Entertainment. “Some of these episodes of the original series have never before been released in their uncut form in North America.”

The first Dragon Ball Season Set includes 31 episodes on 5 DVDs with more than 745 minutes of uncut action. The Season Set releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, English and Japanese language options, and the original Japanese musical score in 5.1 Surround.

A new series? No. FUNimation has nothing to do with TOEI Animation. They never created Dragon Ball. Only altered it with music/voice dubbing. It could be DB Kai. It could be Son Goku and Friends Return. And it even could be re-airing the series as its remastered format on digital television. Maybe all three? :D

I hope they release DB Kai. That would be cool. Show it on TV! I need new stuff! All mine was sold and lost in moving around so much!

I can see how they kept Schemmel’s voice for the uncut episodes of DBZ, but I wonder if they can work him in for Dragon Ball Kai since he works for 4Kids and can apparently only do DBZ voice acting for DBZ videogames.

Yesss!!!!! I hope Funimation picks up Dragonball Kai, dubs it, and airs it on TV, it would be a dream come true, and if they could either use Faulconer’s music or have him rerecord his old stuff, that would be even more of a dream come true, faulconer in 5.1!!! omg that would be inexplicably amazing!!!! But yeaa I also hope they could keep the old cast, Schemmel is amazing and so is Sabat, the incredible duo, and the rest of the cast is also amazing. Anyways if they’re going to announce something it’ll either be at Otakon July 17th-19th or at (most probably) Comic con in San Diego on July22nd-26th, (that’s where Funimation announced the first blu-ray DBZ double feature with the Broly movies). Anyways can’t wait for their announcement, whatever it is, I feel it’s going to be a big one!!! :) db4life!!!
