Although they probably should have started promotion earlier than this for the DVD/Blu-ray release, two trailers have been released to promote the release of Dragonball Evolution. The trailers actually make the movie seem good, but none the less it is always nice to get new material/trailers from a movie based off Dragon Ball that has already been released. Purchase your copy of Dragonball Evolution on DVD or Blu-ray July 28th.

UPDATE – I got another treat for everyone. If you are interested on checking out some of the deleted scenes from DB Evolution, then check out the videos below. (Goku lifting the car was the only scene showing his strength, yet they take it out….)

Videos removed by FOX.

And here are a bunch of never before seen images from the DVD and various sources.

And that is probably all I will cover on the DVD for now. I suggest buying the actual item yourself.

Dragon Ball Z Crane Game

These action figures will be used for the crane game

These action figures will be used for the crane game

FUNimation announced that a special crane game featuring Dragon Ball Z action figures (from Namco) will be available around the country (over 780 locations). You can play these Dragon Ball Z crane games at amusement parks, theaters, etc. Could these have been that other DBZ related announcement FUNimation was talking about before? Anways, here is the press release.

Flower Mound, Texas (July 15, 2009) – FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation, Toei Animation, Ltd., and Namco Cybertainment Inc., one of the largest amusement game operators in the U.S. and Caribbean, are bringing the Z-fighters to more than 780 amusement centers around the country.

Already available, these centers house a new crane game containing figures of Goku, his friends and foes.  The Dragon Ball Z figure crane game will offer an entirely new experience for those who are familiar with the old crane concept. Instead of directing a crane claw to a random and, hopefully, substantial grip on a desired prize, crane players are able to utilize their skills to line up the claw fingers with one or more of the eight holes in the custom figure packaging for a precise hook on their favorite Dragon Ball Z figures. These collector edition figure prizes are designed and manufactured by Banpresto Co., Ltd. of Tokyo, Japan and cannot be found in retail stores.

FUNimation Confirms DB Season One Set

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

FUNimation has finally confirmed at the Anime Expo that they will be releasing the first 31 episodes of Dragon Ball (remastered) September 15th. They have also updated their twitter mentioning Season One of Dragon Ball.

They also mentioned at the anime expo to stay tuned for more Dragon Ball related updates within the next month. One can only speculate what it could be, but it most likely has to do with Dragon Ball Kai. Or maybe re-airing the series on TV? We’ll just have to wait and see.

UPDATE – FUNimation revealed a press release :

Dragon Ball Season Set One includes the first 31 episodes of the iconic franchise and chronicles the first adventures of Goku as a child as he meets Bulma, Master Roshi and others. Together they set out to find the seven magic Dragon Balls and make the wish that will change their lives forever.

“This is a project we have been looking forward to for a long time,” said Gen Fukunaga, president at CEO at FUNimation Entertainment. “Some of these episodes of the original series have never before been released in their uncut form in North America.”

The first Dragon Ball Season Set includes 31 episodes on 5 DVDs with more than 745 minutes of uncut action. The Season Set releases will feature an aspect ratio of 4:3, English and Japanese language options, and the original Japanese musical score in 5.1 Surround.

IGN Reviews the Dragonball Evolution DVD

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

IGN has posted their review of the Dragonball Evolution DVD.

There’s not a whole lot of content here, and very little worth coming back to once you’ve seen it.

There are eight deleted scenes, although two of them are merely extended versions of scenes in the film. There’s nothing all that essential to the film here, but fans might like to see a few extra comedic moments and action beats that didn’t make the final cut.

Goku’s workout opens with a “don’t try this at home” disclaimer. Which is weird, since the whole thing is basically a martial-arts lesson. Where exactly are you supposed to try it? Fight team members Ryan Watson and Matt Rigetti host the training session against a cheesy background of rocky terrain. They show you how to execute some of the moves used in the film (moves which, presumably, you’re not supposed to try). The production value is about the level of a workout video, complete with generic techno music in the background.
