Although the box office results for Dragonball Evolution for the US premiere was pretty bad (due to lack of promotion), it appears the sequel may truly be green lit. We get more confirmation from James Marsters in this recent interview.
Al Norton: You mentioned other movies in this series, obviously in a project like this there is hope of doing more but are you already set for them?
James Marsters: I was told the day before yesterday that we’re green lit for the second film and it’s ok to tell the press.
Al Norton: So are you going to just stay in shape? Did you have a little post-production celebration of being able to eat what you wanted?
James Marsters: No (laughing). I went from grueling workouts during Dragon Ball to shooting in eastern Europe for two films, getting a little out of shape but not bad at all. I’m on a good workout now but as soon as I get back from playing music in May the stunt crew is going to have me again.
When I signed on for Dragon Ball I knew it was all about transformation. The characters start at one power level and they transform into a new and more powerful version of themselves, and that happens to each of them more than once. It’s going to be very important to step up and give that physical transformation so that every movie that comes down the road makes the audience go, “oh my god, is that the same guy?” I’m going to have to keep topping myself and frankly I was in better shape for Dragon Ball than I was for Buffy.
Al Norton: Have you seen the finished product?
James Marsters: Yes, three times. I like it better every time. Twice in English and once in Japanese. It was dubbed but I chose to think that the acting was very good.
But, I would only take this with a grain of salt since this interview was taken on the 10th (the day Dragonball Evolution premiered in the US).
I don’t know…the box office is doing pretty bad right now
But all we can do is hope

I can’t wait for the sequel for Dragonball Evolution.
I hope it will have Raditz, Vegeta and Nappa for the next one. I hope also that it will have Krillin, Tien and Chiaotzu be in the next one too. If they don’t have one these characters in it, I will be dissapointed. But I’m still happy with the results despite not doing good at the box office.

I don’t know. I think it’s pretty stupid as this movie’s bombed in nearly every country it’s been released and I’m thinking if it manages to make back it’s budget, it won’t make much more. They’d be dumb to make a sequel. I always take anything Marsters/Chatwin say as a grain of salt since most of what they’ve said has been extremely embellished or outright lies (like the movie’s budget). Lies I_Like_Turtles? I think not. James was told that was the budget, don’t blame him. For all we know, it could have been 100$ million and only 50 of it was used for the first film. And the only reason why Db E didnt make much money in the US was due to lack of promotion.

YEAH may be u are right …. the movie made 4.7 Mio. $ in the USA this Weekend … so next week it will be may be another 2 Million for the hole week .. and than thats it … it will make may be totaly 10 Mio in the US … and thats not that good if you think that it is DRAGONBALL !!! the MOST SOLD GRAFIC NOVEL ON THIS PLANET and one of the MOST SUCESSFUL ANIMATION SERIES EVER MADE !!! …. naja … FOX failed by making sooo much mistakes .. i cant start … there are so many …. –
Yes we may think that the Movie isnt that bad …. and that its actually good in some way … and we are right !!! But the “normal” NON FAN Audience think its REDICULUS and a KID MOVIE !!! with all the cliches of a “Karate KID” Movie in Modern Highschool american way DAYS !!! Which has nothing to do with DRAGONBALL … but they have it …. the result is a BUMMER-
If we look to the MONEY this movie is making … we can see a total cross now of over 33-40 Mio. $ after the Movie opend World Wide … which is almost the Budget of the MOVIE …. in 3 or 4 weeks it may rise to a total cross of 55-65 Mio. and with the DVD release and the LAST Markets in Germany and Finnland (…) in June it will rise may be to a TOTAL EARNING of 70-85 Mio $ finally ….. –
So there we have it … they made may be 40 Mio. $ earnings from that Movie …. is this enuff for a sequel choice ? or are they going to change the hole consept of this rediculus treatment of DRAGONBALL ? so that FOX sees a hope for a bigger sucess of the Movies sequels ???
The question is !
1. Can Fox take Dragonball serious and change the Script for the DB sequel to a close to the original MANGA one ??? !!!
( kick Ben Ramsey script or change it by DB FANS !! ) . -
2. Will they try to take a higher Budget of over 80-100 Mio. $, and hire a BETTER DIRECTOR LIKE: Peter JACKSON ???
3. ARE THEY going to work together with Martial Artist from Asia and with an assistent Director from JAPAN .. filming in Locations in China and Japan … so that the japanese/asian people will accept this Dragonball Movies as a Cooperation from Hollywood and ASIA ? -> imagine DRAGONBALL in the Location and Camera Style of “Hero” or “House of flying daggers” ??
4. The sequel must have: Krilin, God Kami, Tenshinhan (Chaozu), Master Kaio (Heaven and his Planet), Vegeta, Napa and Raditz and Saibamen in it !!!! ( hire me as the ROLE OF VEGATA !! yes i look like him … )
5. They should think about putting: Chala-Head-Chala in this Movie !! hire Hironobu Kageyama ( in over 40 Countries World Wide is this Song knows as the OPENING for DRAGONBALL Z and is the most sucessful Anime Opening ever MADE !!!)
6. The sequel has to be Called ” DRAGONBALL Z : The Sayajin SAGA” or just Dragoball Z at least !!
7. The Movie has to come out WORLD WIDE at the SAME TIME !!! with a Premier in Tokio of course !!! and a premier in the USA some days later … but than in ALL CINEMAS WORLD WIDE AT THE SAME TIME !!! like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings did !!! -> no change for a leak Bootleg …. and NO pre DVDS for the Press … they leak also everytime !!!
8. WAY BETTER DRAGONBALL TRAILERS !!! this ones were rediculus … there are better FANTRAILERS on Youtube than the one from this movie !!! there should be a teaser 1 year coming out before the movie … like the one in Japan but better …. compair to Lord of the Rings they did a great Job in creating anticipation!! and than at least 6-7 Month before the Movie the First TRAILER … BUT AN AMAZING BLOWING AWAY ONE !!! and than 2-3 month before the second one with more story and character moments and GOOD Fight scenes , wonderful landscapes , amazing Music score , energy blasts and fantasy on the nivel of “neverending story” and “Willow”. with a soul and a pure heart that anybody can feel out of the screen !!
9. THE MOVIE HAS TO BE PG 13 !!! and at least 120 min. long !!! its DRAGONBALL ????? what the fuck ??? the longest Animation Series ever … with over 500 episode ( the Simpsons have 436 !! episodes) and 22 Animation MOVIES over 50 Videogames on ALL the Gameing Platforms out there since 1986 !!! )
10. They should sell the rights to WB(Marvel) and NEW LINE CINEMA !!! they would make a good REBOOT/REMAKE because they know how to treat one of the biggest FRANCHISES EVER !!! THEY KNOW HOW TO MAKE GOOD MOVIES …. FOX forgot since Star Wars Episode 3 there hasnt been a good Movie from them …. ???

great news.. new a sequal was coming soon as they announced dragonball.. the importnt thing is that they make more of an effort to please everyone. if they going to follow dragonball in to Z they they going to have to involve krillin at the least.. also making the movie smoother and longer whilst sorting the fighting out…

I read the original 1st draft of the script. It was awesome! But it had some seriously bad product marketing in it. heres the details:
1. Everyone knows the legend of the d-balls, and how picollo tried to rule the world. Its part of their history class. but no one knows where the d-balls are anymore. lost to time.
2. the villain is Emperor Pilaf, with his two lackeys mai and soba. Soba is human in this, but he is a ninja wearing futuristic ninja gear.
3. In the film, their is a franchise based on the legend of picollo and the dragonballs. Theirs a card game, a video game (scene where Goku plays a game online called “Raiders of the dragon temple”) and even action figures.
4. Oolong is in the movie as a monster that Pilaf has under his control. He sets it free to terrorize a village, so he could draw out Goku.
5. At the end, Pilaf and Mai aquire most of the d-balls. They take off their disguises, revealing they a group of rogue Nameks who want to take over the world. Soba takes off his disguise, revealing to be a wolf-man monster. Goku turns into monkey. Pilaf uses oozaru to distract Gokus friends while Pilaf steals their d-balls. They use the Dragonballs to wish their god, Picollo back from the dead. He comes back wearing the turban and young. Same ending battle as dragonball evolution, except Goku catches Picollos energy ball, channels it with his own, and shoots it back as a kamehameha. and it desintigrates Picollo into dust. like it should.

I´m sorry am i seeing this wrong? i can´t believe there isn´t 1 person that didn´t like the movie… it was so bad that i can´t even start… the change of story was one of the worst i have ever seen, the actuation’s were sometimes really bad, the changes in the characters were ridiculous, goku learns the kamehameha right after he sees it, and he fights because he wants to be the best not because he is in love, he doesn´t act that way in front of chichi, piccolo only appears 5 min and the last fight i don´t know if that was really a fight… it was ridiculous…. if they are going to make a sequel that is like this…. i hope they don´t make it… Ennio(Quote)

I am sorry, the first movie was a joke, not even resembling the anime in so many respects. It barely made the budget .. .. . .finally. It was reported at 45 million. That itself is a joke. I saw the G.I.Joe previews and it looks good. I’m not saying they followed the cartoon to the tee but at least they had a respectable budget foe a kickass movie with effects and hopefully a good story, they have a budget of 175 million. And Fox only gives DB 45 million. Give me a break, if they did it right they would have plenty of source material for plently of sequels. Instead they pissed off tons of fans for putting this garbage of a film out that resembled more of a power rangers episode. I won’t be standing in line for the sequel.
